Travel Itinerary

Day 1

Upon arrival in Lima, clear customs and immigration, gather your luggage and then meet your representative for assistance and transfer to the hotel. They will be outside of baggage claim holding a sign with your name.

Day 2

Breakfast buffet included at the hotel.

Morning pick-up for a Lima City, Casa Allaga, and Larco Museum Tour. You will be driven to the Plaza Mayor, where you will see the Government Palace, the Cathedral, the Archbishop's Palace and City Hall. Then, you will visit a XVII century church and cloister of San Francisco, a world cultural heritage site. You will visit the Casa de Aliaga, the former house of the conquistador Jeronimo de Aliaga y Ramirez, where you will feel the energy of colonial and republican Lima. This residence is still inhabited by Aliaga’s direct descendants. Finally, drive to the Larco Herrera Museum, the world's largest private collection of Peruvian pre-Columbian art that houses approximately 45,000 pieces of gold, silver, ceramics, textiles, stone and wood collected by the Peruvian archaeologist Rafael Larco Herrera. The museum is famed for its erotic pottery collection. Lunch is included at the museum’s restaurant, Café del Museo. The tour continues to the modern residential suburb of San Isidro and to downtown Miraflores with its Park of Love to enjoy a splendid view of the Pacific Ocean.

Return to the hotel for the remainder of the day at your leisure.

Day 3

Pick-up for assistance and transfer to the airport for your flights to Cusco. (Morning flights are recommended – not included in base price)

Upon arrival, gather your luggage and then meet your guide and driver for assistance.

Begin the full-day Cusco City and Ruins Tour to include Sacsayhuaman and Ollantaytambo with lunch. Get to know the city of Cusco, visiting the Cathedral, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site and possessor of a style all its own in keeping with Cusco’s ancient art. The tour continues at the Koricancha Temple, an old Incan palace and main center for the worship of the sun god, Inti. Once the Spanish conquered Peru, the Dominican order built a lovely church over this temple’s foundations: the church of Santo Domingo, that is still there today. Your next destination is the Main Square. The adventure continues at the Sacsayhuaman Fortress, built of enormous stone blocks expertly shaped by the Incas. It is strategically located at the top of a hill overlooking the city of Cuzco. The tour continues with visits to three archaeological sites: Qenko, Puca-Pucara, and Tambomachay, important religious and administrative centers for the Incas. Finally, you will be driven to the Sacred Valley where you will have lunch at a countryside restaurant, Ayasqa Valle Restaurant. After lunch, continue towards Ollantaytambo, a town boasting an impressive Incan military, religious and agricultural center located at the top of a mountain where you will learn about the Inca’s respect for nature. Continue to the hacienda where you will check-in and have the remainder of the day at your leisure.

Day 4

Breakfast buffet included at the hacienda.

Pick-up for a full-day Sacred Valley Tour to include Maras Salt Mines, Moray Terraces, and the Misminay Community with lunch included. Visit the enormous circular terraces at Moray, used as a botanical laboratory by the Incas, and emjoy a magnificent view of the Urubamba Valley. Then on to the village of Maras, which produces the finest salt in the world: Sal de Maras. The terraces and saltpans are an obligatory stop for photographs. You will also visit the Andean community of Misminay and share tasks with local inhabitants, who still preserve ancient Inca traditions. You can choose between plowing, harvesting, or learning ancient weaving techniques, among many other activities. You will also take part in a thanksgiving ceremony to Pachamama or Mother Earth. Lunch is included. Witness as local women spin and dye the wool using natural ingredients and weave according to ancient techniques.

Day 5

Breakfast buffet included at the hotel as transfer time allows. Check out. You will be taking an overnight backpack with you on the train to Aguas Calientes, leaving extra LOCKED luggage to be stored until your return. We suggest taking a smaller bag to include passports, water, sunscreen, bug repellent, hats, light raingear, etc. to have with you on the site tour. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR PASSPORTS WITH YOU TO CHECK IN FOR THE TRAIN AND AT THE MACHU PICCHU SITE. The natural beauty of the surroundings makes the train the best way to start your visit. When you arrive, you will start the ascent to the ruins by bus which will be without a doubt one of your most unforgettable experiences. Meet your local guide at Machu Picchu and you can see one of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World that will take your breath away.

Make your way back down the mountain for lunch and to check-in to the hotel. Enjoy the afternoon exploring the town and its markets on your own.

Day 6

Breakfast buffet included at the hotel. Morning at your leisure.

You will be able to check out and leave LOCKED bags in hotel storage until you head for the train station. This will allow you to explore the area on your own without carrying your bags with you. Optional opportunity to add on a second entrance to Machu Picchu, the Hike to Huayna Picchu, or a hike to the Sun Gate (rates to follow).

Make your way to the train station to arrive about one hour prior to departure time. Make sure to take your bags and have your passport handy.

Board the train for your return to Cusco. Upon arrival, meet your driver and guide for assistance and transfer to the hotel, retrieving your stored luggage on the way.

Start your journey arriving to Puerto Maldonado, where our staff will welcome you and provide the necessary information for your stay.

Navigate by outboard motorized canoe along the Madre de Dios River to Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción for approximately 25 minutes. Enjoy lunch with organic ingredients and native flavors. After lunch, take a walk through Concepcion Trails, where you will discover and learn about the primary and secondary rainforest, its components, uses, transformations by human beings, and its relevance for the world. At dusk, navigate by outboard motorized canoe, at the Twilight River Excursion. By sailing on the Madre de Dios River, you will learn about its ecosystem, Amazonian creeks, nocturnal animals’ behavior, and the southern constellations. In the evening enjoy a nice dinner in the Casa Grande´s dining room.

Day 8

After a buffet breakfast, get ready for a long trek through terra firma into the Tambopata National Reserve towards Lake Sandoval.

Here you will understand why Madre de Dios is called the biodiversity capital of Peru, while learning about the Reserve’s conservation efforts and the lake’s formation. Navigate by dugout canoe across this mirror-like oxbow lake that is home to the endangered giant river otter (Pteronura brasiliensis), blue and yellow macaw (Ara ararauna), red howler monkey (Alouatta seniculus), black caiman (Melanosuchus niger), and one of the world’s biggest fresh water scaled fish, the paiche (Arapaima gigas). Back to the lodge for lunch, and later the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway and Anaconda Walk await you. Take a 20-minute ride by outboard motorized canoe to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway Interpretation Center where you will learn about its construction and the conservation projects of ITA-Inkaterra Asociación (NGO). Ascend one of the two 98-foot towers (30 m.) and cross the seven hanging bridges that connect the treetops at 91 ft. high (28 m). Enjoy the breathtaking vistas and get the chance to watch white-throated toucans (Ramphastos tucanus), woodpeckers, trogons, squirrel monkeys (Saimiri boliviensis) and the three-toed sloth (Choleopus hoffmani). After descending, keep on feeling the incredible primary rainforest energy going along the 200-meter wooden bridge over the swamps (aguajales). You will learn about the fauna and flora of this flooded ecosystem. At night get ready for an adventure during the Rainforest by Night excursion, where you will explore the Amazon rainforest that gives way to nocturnal animals who display intriguing behavior patterns, and enhanced senses as adaptation mechanisms. Listen to nocturnal living nature sounds, and penetrate this hidden world. End up your day with a pleasant dinner.

Day 9

After a breakfast buffet, ride back to Puerto Maldonado by outboard motorized canoe.

Arrive at the Butterfly House where you may wait for your flight back home or to your next destination, while visiting this beautiful exhibit and learning about the fascinating transformation of these colorful insects.

Depart for your flight to Lima.
