Travel Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Morelia. Transportation will be provided to your hotel.

Day 2


You will take a walking tour of the city of Morelia in the morning, which will include the Cathedral on the Zocalo, Palacio de Gobierno, Plaza de Armas, Palacio de Justicia, Casa de Las Artensanias, and Mercado de Dulces. In the afternoon, you will have a guided tour of the Guadalupe Sanctuary, Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Aqueducts and Fountains.

Day 3

Patzcuaro and Lake Patzcuaro

You will travel in the morning from Morelia to Patzcuaro. You will visit the Tzintzuntzan archaeological site then the village to see the Convent, the Market, and visit the workshop of Angelica Morales. In the afternoon, you will take a Santa Fe De La Laguna Pottery Workshop. You will also visit San Jeronimo Purencheuraro and Sanabria (a tiny town between Tzintzuntzan and Patzcuaro .

Day 4

Walking Tour of Patzcuaro and Uruapan

In the morning, you will take a walking tour of Patzcuaro including the Basilica of Our Lady of Health, Gertrudis Bocanegra Library, Las Casa de los 11 Patios, Muse de Artes Populares, and any other highlights in Patzcuaro. You will then take a 1 hour drive from Patzcuaro to Uruapan and the Huatapera (a former hospital of the Indians founded in 1533 by Franciscan Fray Juan de San Miguel in the center of Uruapan. It has also served as a Community Center, School and inn over the years. The Artisan Museum of the Four Indian Peoples of Michoacan, Purepecha, Nahuas, Otemies, and Mazahuas, is located here).

Day 5

Santa Clara Del Cobre and Zitacuaro

In the morning, you will take a 30-minute drive to Santa Clara Del Cobre where you will visit copper workshops, a copper museum, and walk around the town. You will stop in Cuanjo. Cuanjo is off the road to Santa Clara del Cobre. It is a wood working and weaving town with deep traditional roots. Most of the older women wear traditional costumes and Purepecha is spoken widely. The town is orderly and has a small handicrafts market where the crafts that the town produces are available year round. Lunch will be in Santa Clara Del Cobre. In the afternoon you will travel for 3 ½ hours from Santa Clara to Zuitacuaro and have dinner at Rancho San Cayetano.

Day 6

El Rosario Butterfly Sanctuary

In the morning you will drive about 1 hour from Zitacuaro to El Rosario. Lunch will be along the way. In the afternoon you will take a walking tour of Zitacuaro. Zitacuaro is known for its breads, rich tamales, corundas wrapped in green corn leaf, rainbow trout, red/green moles, pozole, and pambazoes. Dinner will be in Zitacuaro.

Day 7

Sierra Chincua or Cerro Pelon

In the morning you may either visit Cerro Pelon, a remote butterfly sanctuary where you will ride on horseback for about an hour and 30 minutes to the sanctuary, or Sierra Chincua, which has horses available. The afternoon is at your leisure in Zitacuaro. You will then be transferred back to Rancho San Cayetano. Dinner will be at Rancho San Cayetano.

Day 8


In the morning you will travel around 3 hours from Zitacuaro to Morelia. In the afternoon you will have free time on Morelia.

Day 9

Transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Price will be determined based on tour choices and number of travelers.
