The perfect trip for the active traveler; come with us as we explore the Inca Trail. We will follow the original footprints of the Incas toward Machu Picchu Sanctuary. Explore the mysteries of our ancestors and experience the incredible road development of the Incas. Through the four days that we hike the trail, we will be part of the Andean world and will have the opportunity to visit different archaeological areas. Along the trail, we will experience different environments and ecosystems before reaching the highest pass at over 4200 meters above sea level.

Travel Itinerary

Day 1

Upon arrival in Lima, meet and transfer to your hotel.

In the afternoon, we will visit the modern and colonial parts of the city of Lima, the "City of Kings", starting in the districts of Miraflores and San Isidro, including an overview of the impressive Huaca Huallamarca. The tour later takes you to the Historic Center, for a visit to the Santo Domingo Convent, a World Heritage Site, where the remains of our patron saints, St. Martin of Porres and Saint Rose of Lima, lie. See the Main Square, surrounded by the Presidential Palace, the Archbishop's Palace, the Municipality of Lima and the Cathedral. This section ends with a stop to sample a pisco sour. The final part of the tour takes you to the Larco Museum, an incomparable private collection of treasures from ancient Peru. This inspiring collection helps visitors to understand and enjoy more than five thousand years of Peruvian history, represented by more than 45,000 exhibits.

Day 2

After a buffet breakfast, transfer to the airport to board your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to the hotel.

In the afternoon, visit the city of Cusco, also called the Imperial City, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The excursion starts at Koricancha temple, an ancient Inca palace and center of worship of the sun god, on the site of which the Dominicans ordered a church to be built, which survives to this day. Then to the Main Square, where you will visit the cathedral, the most important religious building in the city. The climb continues to Sacsayhuamán fortress, an impressive example of Inca military architecture. Then to Kenko, where the sun, moon and stars were worshipped. Next, a visit to Puca-Pucara, which may have been a rest and lodging place for the Inca. Finally, you will visit the Inka’s Expression Art workshop, where you will appreciate how different Peruvian natural products are used (such as plants, fruits, vegetables among others) and you will discover their nutritional, curative and cosmetic properties.

In the evening, you will enjoy a truly unique experience in the Cusco Planetarium, located only 15 minutes away from the center of the city. Here, you will learn about the important relationship between the Andean man and the cosmos. Thanks to special equipment, a starry night will be projected as well as drawings of constellations, which will allow you to experience the wonders of the universe up close. Finally, you will head to the outside of the Planetarium where, if weather allows it, you will witness the most ancient show in the world, observing stars and constellations through telescopes and other instruments of astronomic observation.

Day 3

After a buffet breakfast, depart for a full day Treasures of the Sacred Valley tour, with lunch.

After a stop at a viewpoint to admire the beautiful natural scenery, you will go to Moray to see the enormous circular terraces that were used by the Incas as a botanical laboratory. This is followed by the Maras salt pans, which produce the finest salt in the world, used by great international chefs. A delicious lunch will be served in a local restaurant. After lunch you will continue to Ollantaytambo, one of the most imposing building complexes of the Inca Empire and the site of one of the Spanish Conquistadors' rare strategic defeats. Famous for its terraced fields, Ollantaytambo was an effective fortress as well as a religious center.

Day 4
After a buffet breakfast, you will depart for a kayak or stand up paddle adventure. We will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to The Sacred Valley. We will arrive to Chinchero, where Piuray Lake is located. This beautiful lake offers spectacular scenery, perfect flat water and plenty of birds. We start with a safety briefing and paddle technique on land. Once in the water, we will first get acquainted with the board, paddling techniques, and making turns. Once out of the lake, after a hot infusion, we will relax and enjoy a box brunch, while we enjoy the spectacular views. The afternoon will be at your leisure.

Day 5

Inca Trail Hike Day 1: You will leave the hotel and head to the Sacred Valley, crossing it until you reach Ollantaytambo. After visiting the surroundings of the town of Ollantaytambo, you will head to kilometer 82, where you will start with a very light trek to help you get acclimated until you reach the first archeological complex, Llactapata. After you have visited this site, you will continue with the hike up to Hatunchaca, where you will camp. Total trek time: 4.5 to 5 hours / Distance: 12 kilometers / Beginning of the trek: 2,750 m.a.s.l. / Ends at: 3,000 m.a.s.l

Day 6

Inca Trail Hike Day 2: After breakfast, you will start the hike through the Huayllabamba Valley. On your way, you will observe the nature and ecological changes, until you reach Yunca Chimpa, in Llulluchapampa (3750 m.a.s.l). From this point you will appreciate the Huayanay Valley, before heading to the first pass, Warmiwañusca, known also as the Dead Woman. Camp will be set up in Pacaymayo. Total trek time: 7 hours / Distance: 13 kilometer / Beginning of the trek: 3,000 m.a.s.l. / Ends at: 3,800 m.a.s.l.

Day 7

Inca Trail Hike Day 3: You will ascend to the second pass, called Runkurakay, which is located at 3,680 m.a.s.l. Unlike the days before, the hike will be more demanding but even more gratifying, since you will get the chance to visit the small complex of Sayacmarca, as well as to appreciate the valleys and snow mountains that surround the area. Then you will continue to the Phuyupatamarca complex, where you will take a short tour before descending 3 kilometers down to Wiñaywayna. Here you will visit the complex of the same name and camp for the night. Total trek time: 10 hours / Distance: 15 kilometers / Beginning of the trek: 3,800 m.a.s.l / Ends at: 2,650 m.a.s.l.

Day 8

Inca Trail Hike Day 4: After breakfast, you will head to the Inti Punku area, known also as the Sun Gate, where you will have an impressive view of the citadel of Machu Picchu. You will visit the citadel accompanied by a guide, who will explain the history and structure of this wonderful place. Finally, you will board the bus and head to the train station, before returning to Cusco on the Vistadome train. Total trek time: 2.15 hours / Distance: 6 kilometers, Beginning of the trek: 2,650 m.a.s.l. / Ends at: 2,400 m.a.s.l.

Day 9

After a buffet breakfast, you will transfer to the airport for your flight back to Lima.

 Package Notes

  • Inca Trail spaces are subject to availability. We can not confirm any entrance until a deposit of $260 pp has been paid, and our Cusco Operations Department informs us that they have successfully purchased the space.
  • The Inca Trail program is quoted with shared services; therefore it has fixed dates: Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Private services available upon request at additional cost.
  • The Inca Trail is not operational in February. Only 500 spaces available per day.
  • Price is quoted in Economy Category.
  • You must bring the following equipment: hiking boots, long pants, t-shirts for each day, rain jacket, warm jacket, wool gloves, bandana, wool socks, hat, wool cap, camera, flashlight, head lamp, walking stick with rubber tip, day pack, canteen, insect repellent, sun block, any medications, any extra snacks you would like.
  • To prevent any loss due to cancellation, travel insurance is recommended.
