Travel Itinerary

Day 1

Upon arrival in Lima, meet and transfer to your hotel.

In the afternoon, we will visit the modern and colonial parts of the city of Lima, the "City of Kings", starting in the districts of Miraflores and San Isidro, including an overview of the impressive Huaca Huallamarca. There will be a stop at Parque del Amor (Lover's Park) in Miraflores, for its magnificent view over the Pacific Ocean. The tour later takes you to the Historic Center, for a visit to one of the largest colonial-era convents. See the Main Square, surrounded by the Presidential Palace, the Archbishop's Palace, the Municipality of Lima and the Cathedral.

Day 2

After a buffet breakfast, we will depart for a half day tour of the Pachacamac Ruins. This pilgrimage site was built around 700 A.D. as a temple to the sun god Pachacamac. The site contained an oracle, which is thought to have been one of the principal pilgrimage centers of pre-Hispanic Peru. Its palaces and public squares have been carefully restored. In the afternoon, we will travel through more than 3000 years of pre-Columbian history, by touring two emblematic museums of the nation. You will be captivated by the Archaeological, Anthropological and History Museum, the oldest museum of its type in the country, which houses a priceless cultural heritage made up of ceramics, textiles, metals, organic material and human remains preserved with techniques that still surprise the experts. Then you will visit the impressive Museo del Larco, where you will discover the largest private collection of the treasures of ancient Peru, which is also located inside a colonial house that dates back to the 18th century, which was built on a pre-Columbian pyramid of the seventh century; and that as if it were not enough, it is also known for its exhibition of erotic pottery.

Day 3

After a buffet breakfast, transfer to the airport to board your flight to Chiclayo. Upon arrival, welcome assistance and transfer to your hotel. You will have a tour to the adobe Huaca Rajada mausoleum, where the fabulous tomb of the Lord of Sipan was discovered, with gold pieces and precious stones revealing information about the previously not well-known ancient Moche culture. You will visit The Royal Tombs Museum, one of the biggest museums in the country with the most important archaeological legacies from the Moche culture: jewelry, ornaments and other pieces discovered on the Lord of Sipan tombs. All the exhibited pieces are originals.

Day 4

After breakfast, transfer to the bus station for the VIP service to Trujillo. After a 4-hour trip along the Peruvian coast, arrive in Trujillo and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, you will have a tour which starts with a visit to the Dragon Temple, built by the Chimu culture. You will continue to the ruins of Chan Chan, which consists of nine citadels and was known as the capital of the Chimu Kingdom, as well as the Nik-An. You can stroll around its ceremonial squares, religious buildings, reservoirs, granaries and cemeteries. Then to the old fishing village of Huanchaco, where fishermen still go to sea in 'caballitos de totora', reed boats that have been used for artisanal fishing here for millennia.

Day 5

After breakfast, you will visit beautiful colonial mansions in Trujillo to see their magnificent entrances, balconies and chapels. The tour continues to the Trujillo State University Museum of Archaeology, for a general overview of the pre-Hispanic cultures that flourished in the region. Afterwards, you will visit the impressive Sun and Moon Pyramids, the center of power in the Trujillo valley during the Moche period. See the amazing group of adobe frescoes on one of the walls of the Temple of the Moon, restored by archaeologists. The tour continues to a traditional family in the Moche valley, descendants of the Mochica. Transfer to the airport to take your flight to Lima. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 6

After a buffet breakfast, transfer to the airport to board your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to the hotel.

In the afternoon, visit the city of Cusco, also called the Imperial City, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The excursion starts at Koricancha temple, an ancient Inca palace and center of worship of the sun god, on the site of which the Dominicans ordered a church to be built, which survives to this day. Then to the Main Square, where you will visit the cathedral, the most important religious building in the city. The climb continues to Sacsayhuamán fortress, an impressive example of Inca military architecture. Then to Kenko, where the sun, moon and stars were worshipped. Next, a visit to Puca-Pucara, which may have been a rest and lodging place for the Inca. Finally, you will visit the Inka’s Expression Art workshop, where you will appreciate how different Peruvian natural products are used (such as plants, fruits, vegetables among others) and you will discover their nutritional, curative and cosmetic properties.

In the evening, you will enjoy a truly unique experience in the Cusco Planetarium, located only 15 minutes away from the center of the city. Here, you will learn about the important relationship between the Andean man and the cosmos. Thanks to special equipment, a starry night will be projected as well as drawings of constellations, which will allow you to experience the wonders of the universe up close. Finally, you will head to the outside of the Planetarium where, if weather allows it, you will witness the most ancient show in the world, observing stars and constellations through telescopes and other instruments of astronomic observation.

Day 7

After a buffet breakfast, depart for a full day Treasures of the Sacred Valley tour, with lunch.

After a stop at a viewpoint to admire the beautiful natural scenery, you will go to Moray to see the enormous circular terraces that were used by the Incas as a botanical laboratory. This is followed by the Maras salt pans, which produce the finest salt in the world, used by great international chefs. A delicious lunch will be served in a local restaurant. After lunch you will continue to Ollantaytambo, one of the most imposing building complexes of the Inca Empire and the site of one of the Spanish Conquistadors' rare strategic defeats. Famous for its terraced fields, Ollantaytambo was an effective fortress as well as a religious center.

Overnight in Sacred Valley

Day 8

You will visit one of the most amazing creations of the Inca Empire: Machu Picchu. The excursion will be by train and during the trip we will have an amazing view of the landscapes of the Sacred Valley of Urubamba. Upon arrival to Aguas Calientes, our representatives will be waiting to assist you with the bus to the citadel. It will be an unforgettable experience, where a professional tour guide will give us the history surrounding this mysterious and charming place. After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore the zone on your own, relax and meditate. At the scheduled time, we will go down to the Aguas Calientes town. Lunch included. Overnight in Aguas Calientes or Machu Picchu.

Day 9

After breakfast, you will have the morning at leisure. For an extra cost, an optional second visit to Machu Picchu is possible. You will board the Vistadome train back to Ollanta and transfer to the hotel.
