Travel Itinerary

Day 1

Upon arrival in Lima, meet and transfer to your hotel.

In the afternoon, we will visit the modern and colonial parts of the city of Lima, the "City of Kings", starting in the districts of Miraflores and San Isidro, including an overview of the impressive Huaca Huallamarca. The tour later takes you to the Historic Center, for a visit to the Santo Domingo Convent, a World Heritage Site, where the remains of our patron saints, St. Martin of Porres and Saint Rose of Lima, lie. See the Main Square, surrounded by the Presidential Palace, the Archbishop's Palace, the Municipality of Lima and the Cathedral. This section ends with a stop to sample a pisco sour. The final part of the tour takes you to the Larco Museum, an incomparable private collection of treasures from ancient Peru. This inspiring collection helps visitors to understand and enjoy more than five thousand years of Peruvian history, represented by more than 45,000 exhibits.

Day 2

After a buffet breakfast, transfer to the airport to take your flight to Arequipa. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, you will have a City Tour and a visit to the Santa Catalina Convent. This tour starts in the Main Square, which is surrounded by the city's most impressive buildings. This is followed by a visit to the Jesuit church, the oldest and most important example of religious architecture. Continue through the classical districts of Carmen Alto and Yanahuara, including a visit to the famous vantage point with its spectacular views of the volcanoes Misti, Chachani and Pichu Pichu, as well as the city of Arequipa itself. Then on to Santa Catalina Convent, founded in 1580, with its cloisters, picturesque streets and plazas that remain the same as they were centuries ago. You will also learn about the lives of the select group of nuns who lived there.

Day 3

After breakfast, we will travel to Chivay. Our first stop is 3,900 meters high in the national reserve of Salinas and Aguada Blanca, known as Pampa Cañahuas, where we can see vicuñas. Next, we will detour to the Colca Valley, then to a stop at a restaurant called El Chinito at 4,000 meters high, where you can see the Misti, Chachani and Pichu Pichu. Next we will stop in the pampa de Toccra, where there are lagoons formed by water from the subsoil. Here you can see llamas, alpacas and local muleteers, as well as some Andean birds. The fourth stop is the viewpoint of the Andes, known as Pata Pampa. It is 4,900 meters high and is the highest place on the entire trip. From here you can see eight volcanoes that form a circle of fire. We descend towards Chivay, the most important town in the Colca Valley. Chivay is 3,650 meters high. We will have time to have lunch before our guide takes us back to the hotel. In the afternoon, you will meet the guide to go to the hot water baths, called La Calera. After the Calera you will return to your hotel. That night your guide will take you to dinner at a restaurant with folkloric music.

Day 4

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up for a scenic drive to the Cruz del Condor, where you can see the Colca Canyon and flight of the Condors. On our return trip, we will stop at the town of Pinchollo, then at the Huarya Punko viewpoint where you can see the terraces which form an amphitheater and the mysterious lagoons of the Colca Valley. Next we will visit the town of Maca, then the town of Yanque, with the most beautiful church in the Colca Valley. We will return to Chivay around noon. After lunch (not included), we will return to Arequipa.

Day 5

After a buffet breakfast, transfer to the airport to board your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to the hotel.

In the afternoon, visit the city of Cusco, also called the Imperial City, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The excursion starts at Koricancha temple, an ancient Inca palace and center of worship of the sun god, on the site of which the Dominicans ordered a church to be built, which survives to this day. Then to the Main Square, where you will visit the cathedral, the most important religious building in the city. The climb continues to Sacsayhuamán fortress, an impressive example of Inca military architecture. Then to Kenko, where the sun, moon and stars were worshipped. Next, a visit to Puca-Pucara, which may have been a rest and lodging place for the Inca. Finally, you will visit the Inka’s Expression Art workshop, where you will appreciate how different Peruvian natural products are used (such as plants, fruits, vegetables among others) and you will discover their nutritional, curative and cosmetic properties.

In the evening, you will enjoy a truly unique experience in the Cusco Planetarium, located only 15 minutes away from the center of the city. Here, you will learn about the important relationship between the Andean man and the cosmos. Thanks to special equipment, a starry night will be projected as well as drawings of constellations, which will allow you to experience the wonders of the universe up close. Finally, you will head to the outside of the Planetarium where, if weather allows it, you will witness the most ancient show in the world, observing stars and constellations through telescopes and other instruments of astronomic observation.

Day 6

After a buffet breakfast, depart for a full day Treasures of the Sacred Valley tour, with lunch.

After a stop at a viewpoint to admire the beautiful natural scenery, you will go to Moray to see the enormous circular terraces that were used by the Incas as a botanical laboratory. This is followed by the Maras salt pans, which produce the finest salt in the world, used by great international chefs. A delicious lunch will be served in a local restaurant. After lunch you will continue to Ollantaytambo, one of the most imposing building complexes of the Inca Empire and the site of one of the Spanish Conquistadors' rare strategic defeats. Famous for its terraced fields, Ollantaytambo was an effective fortress as well as a religious center.

Overnight in Sacred Valley

Day 7

After breakfast, depart for Machu Picchu by Vistadome Train. The excursion starts with a train trip to the town of Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo. The natural beauty of the surroundings makes the train the best way to start your visit. When you arrive, you will start the ascent to the ruins, which will, without a doubt, be one of your most unforgettable experiences. At Machu Picchu you can see one of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World and take some impressive photos. Then head back down to Aguas Calientes for lunch in a local restaurant.

Day 8

After breakfast, you will have the morning at leisure. For an extra cost, an optional second visit to Machu Picchu is possible. You will board the Vistadome train back to Ollanta and transfer to the hotel.

Day 9

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
