Travel Itinerary

Day 1

Upon arrival in Lima, meet and transfer to your hotel.

In the afternoon, we will visit the modern and colonial parts of the city of Lima, the "City of Kings", starting in the districts of Miraflores and San Isidro, including an overview of the impressive Huaca Huallamarca. The tour later takes you to the Historic Center, for a visit to the Santo Domingo Convent, a World Heritage Site, where the remains of our patron saints, St. Martin of Porres and Saint Rose of Lima, lie. See the Main Square, surrounded by the Presidential Palace, the Archbishop's Palace, the Municipality of Lima and the Cathedral. This section ends with a stop to sample a pisco sour. The final part of the tour takes you to the Larco Museum, an incomparable private collection of treasures from ancient Peru. Day 2

After a buffet breakfast, transfer to the airport to board your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to the hotel.

In the afternoon, visit the city of Cusco, also called the Imperial City, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The excursion starts at Koricancha temple, an ancient Inca palace and center of worship of the sun god, on the site of which the Dominicans ordered a church to be built, which survives to this day. Then to the Main Square, where you will visit the cathedral, the most important religious building in the city. The climb continues to Sacsayhuamán fortress, an impressive example of Inca military architecture. Then to Kenko, where the sun, moon and stars were worshipped. Next, a visit to Puca-Pucara, which may have been a rest and lodging place for the Inca. Finally, you will visit the Inka’s Expression Art workshop, where you will appreciate how different Peruvian natural products are used (such as plants, fruits, vegetables among others) and you will discover their nutritional, curative and cosmetic properties.

In the evening, you will enjoy a truly unique experience in the Cusco Planetarium, located only 15 minutes away from the center of the city. Here, you will learn about the important relationship between the Andean man and the cosmos. Thanks to special equipment, a starry night will be projected as well as drawings of constellations, which will allow you to experience the wonders of the universe up close. Finally, you will head to the outside of the Planetarium where, if weather allows it, you will witness the most ancient show in the world, observing stars and constellations through telescopes and other instruments of astronomic observation.

After lunch you will continue to Ollantaytambo, one of the most imposing building complexes of the Inca Empire and the site of one of the Spanish Conquistadors' rare strategic defeats. Famous for its terraced fields, Ollantaytambo was an effective fortress as well as a religious center.

After lunch, you will have some time to rest until the first excursion at 15:30. We will hike along the trail from the lodge to the Castañero or Brazil nut camp, which will be your first real contact with the jungle. You will learn about tropical trees, medicinal plants, Brazil nut harvesting, and the 60-hectare preservation area that Corto Maltés Amazonía is in charge of. Returning to the lodge, you will have the opportunity to relax in the pool, rest in the hammocks on the porch of your bungalow, drink a cocktail in the exotic bar, get a massage by one of our qualified personnel, buy a gift at the artisanal shop or head down to the dock on the river to watch the sunset. Hike about 3 km through the beautiful vegetation of the tropical forest up to the territory of the Tambopata National Reserve. Here you can admire the giant trees, snakes, monkeys (squirrel, howler and/or capuchin), birds (hoatzin, kingfisher and anhinga). Once at Lake Sandoval, you will take a ride in a small rowboat looking for the river otters. You will have the opportunity to see a large variety of reptiles, mammals and birds in their natural habitat. When the guide finds the ideal spot, you will stop for breakfast. The next adventure will take you to Monkey Island (This activity is subject to the season and the guide's discretion, due to various factors.) On Monkey Island, around five species of monkeys live in the wild. These animals are already used to visits by tourists and may come close to people, so you must always follow the instructions of the guide. Return to the lodge for lunch, and in the afternoon you will climb to the observation towers with a height of 42 meters, designed for bird watching and enjoying the sunset.
