The perfect trip for the active traveler - come with us as we explore the Inca Trail. We will follow the original footprints of the Incas toward Machu Picchu Sanctuary. Explore the mysteries of our ancestors and experience the incredible road development of the Incas. Through the four days that we hike the trail, we will be part of the Andean world and will have the opportunity to visit different archaeological areas. Along the trail, we will experience different environments and ecosystems before reaching the highest pass at over 4200 meters above sea level.

Travel Itinerary

Day 1

Upon arrival in Lima, meet and transfer to your hotel.

In the afternoon, we will visit the modern and colonial parts of the city of Lima the "City of Kings", starting in the districts of Miraflores and San Isidro. The road passes a Huaca or sacred pre-Inca site. There will then be a stop at Parque del Amor (Lovers Park) in Miraflores for its magnificent view over the Pacific Ocean. The tour also includes the Historic Centre based on the Main Square, where the Presidential Palace, the Archbishop´s Palace, the Municipality of Lima and the Cathedral are located, as well as a visit to one of the largest colonial-era convents.

Day 2

After a buffet breakfast, transfer out from hotel to airport. Arrive in Cusco and transfer to your hotel.

You will visit the Imperial City, a living example of the mixture between Andean and Spanish cultures. You will start the tour in the Koricancha Temple, an ancient Inca palace and main worship site for the Sun God. Then, you will visit the Main Square, where you’ll take a tour of the Cathedral. You will make a stop at the San Cristobal Viewpoint, from where you’ll enjoy a beautiful view of the city. You will continue over to the Sacsayhuamán Fortress, an awe-inspiring feat of Incan military architecture that reigns over the city. Then, you will visit the Kenko archeological site and the panoramic view of the Puca-Pucara archeological complex. Finally, you will stop by the Inka’s Expression art workshop, which introduces you to artists working with silver, paint and wood; the perfect visit to further understand Andean art.

Day 3

The first destination for today is Chinchero, a small and colorful town with an important Incan archeological site, built towards the end of the 1400’s, as well as a beautiful and traditional church. You will visit “Urpi”, a famous textile center where the townspeople have preserved traditional Andean weaving techniques and where they’ll also show you how to obtain the bright color they put into their fabrics. On your way to Ollantaytambo, you will stop at the Racchi viewpoint, where you’ll enjoy some of the best views of the Sacred Valley. Then, lunch will be served at a local restaurant. You will continue towards Ollantaytambo, one of the most representative archeological sites of the ancient Inca Empire and one of the few sites where the Spanish lost an important battle. Widely known for its terraces (dug into the mountainsides for agricultural purposes), Ollantaytambo was a fortress that also served as a temple. We will then continue to the adjacent town of Ollantaytambo, “a living Inca city”, the best existing example of the Incan urban planning, with beautiful stone streets that have been inhabited since the 13th century.

Day 4

After a buffet breakfast, we will begin our journey on the Inca Trail. We will depart at 6:30 am from the hotel, and through the Sacred Valley up to Ollantaytambo, where we will stop for approximately 45 minutes. We will visit Ollantaytambo and the surrounding area, and then we will go up to kilometer 82, where we will start a not-too-demanding hike, to the rhythm of acclimatization, up to the first archaeological complex of Llactapata, half an hour from kilometer 88 (2,550 meters above sea level), where we will stop for about 30 minutes to visit the complex, and then go on with our hike up to Hatunchaca, where we will camp. Total hike time: 4:30 to 5:00 hours. Total kilometers: 2 kilometers. The hike begins at 2,750 meters above sea level. Ends at 3,000 meters above sea level.

Day 5

After breakfast, we will start our hike through the Huayllabamba Valley. During our tour, we will observe nature and ecological changes all the way up to the place called Yunca Chimpa, and with that goal in mind, we will get prepared to make our ascent from Huayllabamba to Llulluchapampa (3,750 meters above sea level). From there, we will be able to appreciate Huayanay Valley and the first pass located at 4,200 above sea level, Warmiwañusca, also known as Dead Woman. We will camp in the Pacaymayo sector. Total hike time: 7 hours. Total kilometers: 13 kilometers. Hike begins at 3,000 above sea level. Ends at 3800 meters above sea level.

Day 6

Today we will make our ascent up to the second pass, known as Runkurakay, at 3,860 meters over sea level. This time you will have a difference of two additional hours for the hike, to visit the small complex of Sayacmarca and appreciate the valleys and snow peaks, before going on to the Phuyupatamarca complex on a small hike. Then we will go down three kilometers to the place called Wiñaywayna, where we will visit the namesake complex and we will camp. Total hike time 10 hours. Total kilometers: 15. Hike begins at 3,800 meters over sea level. Ends at 2,650 meters over sea level.

Day 7

After breakfast, we will go to the sector of Intipunku also known as Puerta de Sol (Gate of the Sun), where we will observe the impressive lost city of Machu Picchu, as the guide will explain to us during an hour and thirty minute lapse. At a specified time, we will take the buses to the train station and we will get back to Cusco, where someone from our crew will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Total hike time: 2:15 hours. Total kilometers: 6. Hike begins at 2,650 meters over sea level. Ends at 2,400 meters over sea level.

Day 8

At the scheduled time, transfer out to the airport for your return flight to Lima. Upon arrival in Lima, you will receive airport assistance to connect with your next flight.

 Package Notes

  • Inca Trail spaces are subject to availability. We can not confirm any entrance until a deposit of $260 pp has been paid, and our Cusco Operations Department informs us that they have successfully purchased the space.
  • The Inca Trail program is quoted with shared services; therefore it has fixed dates: Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Private services available upon request at additional cost.
  • The Inca Trail is not operational in February. Only 500 spaces available per day.
  • Price is quoted in Economy Category.

  • You must bring the following equipment: hiking boots, long pants, t-shirts for each day, rain jacket, warm jacket, wool gloves, bandana, wool socks, hat, wool cap, camera, flashlight, head lamp, walking stick with rubber tip, day pack, canteen, insect repellent, sun block, any medications, any extra snacks you would like.
