Travel Itinerary

Day 1

Pick up at the airport and then check in at 990 Magallanes St. between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Board cruise ship at 6:00 pm. After a welcome cocktail reception offered by the Captain and his crew, the ship will depart for “the remotest part of the earth”. Our trip takes us through the Strait of Magellan and Beagle Channel to explore one of the most breathtaking wilderness regions in the world.

Day 2

At dawn, we find ourselves in the Agostini fjord, in the heart of the Darwin Mountain Range, in Tierra del Fuego, where we observe the wilderness and impressive geological features in a panoramic navigation. In the afternoon, we approach Aguila Glacier, where we will disembark to enjoy a leisurely 2-hour beach walk around a lagoon in the midst of the Darwin Mountain Range until we reach Aguila Glacierr at the foot of the Cordillera.

Day 3

In the morning, we sail Canal Ballenero to enter Garibaldi Fjord where our next landing will take place. This exploration will take us inside the Magellan forest to arrive at a glacier-fed falls at mid mountain range. Even from the vessel, the majestic Garibaldi glacier can be admired. In the afternoon, we sail towards the northeast arm of the Beagle Channel to enter the Pia fjord and reach Pia Glacier for a trek to a mirador where we can observe this impressive glacier from a close distance. Once back on board, we head back to the Beagle Channel and start our slow navigation, observing all of Glacier Alley in a spectacular show of international food, beverages and European country named glaciers.

Day 4

Welcome to Ushuaia, in the Republica de Argentina. This is one of the most important cities in the island of Tierra del Fuego and Antatrctica’s main Gateway. This city of 65,000 was founded in 1884 and was one of the first encounter settings between the Yagan (Yamana) Culture and Anglican misionaries. In Ushuaia, you have a choice of a 4-hour Tierra del Fuego National Park visit or a 2-hour Prison/Yamana Museum visit. We must return to embark at around 18:00 hrs.

Day 5

We will be sailing through Murray Channel and Nassau Bay to reach Cape Horn National Park, where disembarking is scheduled, weather permitting. The mythical Cape Horn was discovered in 1616 and it is a sheer 425-meter (1,394-foot) high rocky promontory. For many years it was an important navigation route for sailboats between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, and is known as the “End of the Earth”. The park was declared a World Biosphere Reserve in 2005. In the afternoon, we will go ashore at historical Wulaia Bay, originally the site of one of the region’s largest Yamana aboriginal settlements. Charles Darwin landed there in 1833, during his voyage on the HMS Beagle. This area is also renowned for the mesmerizing beauty of its vegetation and geography. We will walk through a Magellan forest of lengas, coigües, canelos, ferns, and other endemic vegetation to reach a panoramic viewpoint.

Day 6

Early in the morning, we navigate the channels of the western edge of Tierra del Fuego, observing an unexplored region with pristine scenery and a land rich with natural history. After lunch, we arrive at Chico Sound and disembark in Zodiac boats to explore Alakaluf Fjord, and to see its beautiful waterfalls and observe the Piloto and Nena glaciers from the sea. We will learn about the formation of glaciers and their influence in the abrupt geography of the region’s channels.

Day 7

At dawn, sailing through Almirantazgo Sound, we arrive to anchor at Bahia Guerrero in front of Brookes glacier and disembark to observe one of the best examples of glacial activity in the Darwin Mountain Range. In the afternoon, we arrive at Ainsworth Bay, inside the Alberto De Agostini National Park. From a distance we may see the Marinelli Glacier which descends from the Darwin Mountain Range, and we will learn how life begins after the retreat of the ice. We will also take a walk to discover a beaver dam in the marvelous sub-polar Magellanic forest. On the beach, we will try to see elephant seals, but we cannot guarantee this as the precise location of the colony is unpredictable.

Day 8

Early in the morning, weather permitting, we will go ashore on Magdalena Island, located in the middle of the Strait of Magellan. The island used to be an essential source of supplies for navigators and explorers and is inhabited by an immense colony of Magellan Penguins that we will be able to see during our walk to the lighthouse. In September and April this excursion is replaced by a ride on Zodiac boats to Marta Island to observe South American Sea Lions. Finally, disembarking at Punta Arenas is scheduled at 11:30 am. We will transfer you to the airport for your return journey.
